Brianne & Matt's Story

We got married on our seven-year anniversary. During the first half of our relationship we were so busy with life changes: We each moved multiple times, worked full-time and went to school full-time, and each made job changes trying to get to the careers we wanted. We sometimes had very little time for each other. After we had graduated and settled into our careers, we were able to move in together. Since then, we have moved on from renting our first condo to owning our first home, and have taken up a life of traveling.

We got engaged while backpacking in Italy. I had been to Europe before, but Matt knew I wanted to go back, so he let me pick anywhere. So off we went backpacking through Italy for two weeks. About a week in, while hiking along the coast in the Cinque Terre area, he got down on one knee and finally proposed a couple months after our five-year anniversary.

I lovingly call our wedding a "destination wedding for two." Our family knew we were going to get married away in Montana, but we decided it would just be the two of us there. We decided to do it this way because honestly we're both not big on the fanfare that comes with traditional weddings. We're simple and wanted to keep our wedding that way. We liked the idea of being able to have a super intimate memory that just the two of us would have. We included immediate family and some close friends by having them write us letters that we could read and enjoy.

We chose our location in Glacier National Park simply by looking at pictures! We love hiking and kayaking and horseback riding so we knew Glacier National Park would be a great fit for us and for our honeymoon after.

My tip for other brides who want to elope or have a private ceremony in or around Glacier National Park: Keep it simple. The mountains and the overall landscape will do all the talking and showing off you could ever want.
